So, I was invited to a group on Facebook today, in support of something that was changing our city name into a racial stereotype of our area. To be frank, they changed it from Whitby to Whiteby. I was hopeful going in, because I'm not really a fan of my city. There's nothing bad about it, it's just that there's nothing to really do. I thought that it may be pointing out some flaws our city could improve on, at the very least poking at the fact that our city is dominantly Caucasian.
As usual, for people my age, and my general hope for humanity, I was sorely mistaken.
It's a guy from my school who is feverishly making an ass outta himself, openly making fun of some other students, making fun of anything he can, in a slow drawl that makes him look educationally and intellectually challenged, resorting to answering critiques with "Fuck you, and suck my mole".
I took a look through his subscribers, and found a few people I was surprised to see, as I thought they had some taste, and upon asking one of them why they were fans of it (While keeping my own opinions shadowed), it was simply because they knew the person in question, and knew that he was happy with his videos.
Wait.
Back up.
Someone likes a video series because the director likes the video series? This isn't at all how things should work, particularly not if this person wants to get famous. If his stuff is shit, we should be able to TELL him his stuff is shit. If he were really up to this, he'd listen to reviews that critique him, not tell them to go fuck themselves. From what I can see, this guy is playing to a very limited audience, mostly focusing around his friends. However this is NOT the way to get famous. You need to know how to pull people into your act, to make them pay attention, and not by making yourself an ass. That only goes so far.
